The area of Brda comprises the hilly slopes between the Alps and the Adriatic Sea which was politically divided between Italy (Collio) and Slovenia (Goriška Brda or simply Brda). Nowadays is one of the most prominent wine areas in Slovenia, a sub-region of Primorska wine region, characterized by proximity to the sea, many sunny days, mild winters, flisch soil and manual treatment of vines. A true blooming and sunny wine paradise.
The roots of vine-growing in Brda stretch much further back into past and were almost loosened during the first WW when many villages were destroyed and people were forced to emigration. Since the 1950s, when Brda became Slovene, most vineyards have been renewed and tradition goes on. Nowadays more successfully than ever.
The scenic landscape of Brda is eye catching as many slopes are sewn with vines and on every top there is a church surrounded by numerous houses.
